ABOUT
Shruti Bujarbaruah is an accomplished Indian classical vocalist and playback singer, celebrated for her soulful renditions and profound understanding of Hindustani music. Born and raised in Assam, her musical journey began at the tender age of four under the loving guidance of her parents, Shri Munindra Bujarbaruah and Smt. Sangita Bujarbaruah. She holds the esteemed degrees of Sangeet Visharad and Sangeet Alankar from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapeeth, Lucknow, reflecting her deep-rooted dedication to her art. While her foundation lies in pure classical music, Shruti’s mellifluous voice effortlessly traverses genres, from the delicate strains of Thumri and Dadra to the devotional cadence of Abhang and Bhajan, and the expressive charm of Ghazal. A versatile linguist, she brings the essence of music to life in Assamese, Hindi, English, Bengali, and Marathi.
In 2014, Shruti’s musical journey led her to Pune, where she immersed herself in the profound world of Hindustani classical music under the tutelage of Pt. Vijay Koparkar — a distinguished disciple of Pt. Vasantrao Deshpande and Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki.
Her dedication and passion for the art earned her both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music from S.N.D.T. University, Pune, where she graduated with distinction and was honoured with the University Gold Medal for her excellence. Now based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Shruti continues her relentless taalim under the guidance of Vidushi Pratima Tilak — an eminent exponent of the Jaipur–Atrauli Gharana and disciple of Vidushi Kaushalya Manjeshwar and Vidushi Kamal Tambe, both illustrious disciples of Gaan Tapaswini Mogubai Kurdikar. Guided by such an illustrious lineage, Shruti’s music continues to blossom — a seamless blend of devotion, discipline, and the timeless soul of her gayaki.
The hallmark of Shruti’s gayaki lies in her ability to sing with deep bhaav (emotion), bringing out the true ras of each raag in a way that leaves audiences spellbound. In Indian classical music the lyrics of the bandish are often seem to be unconsciously overlooked, but Shruti pays special attention to them, striving to express the same bhaav that the words convey. This thoughtful approach ensures that the emotional essence of the composition reaches every listener. Her artistry is further reflected in her effortless command over fast, intricate taans, which add brilliance and energy to her performances. Shruti renders each raag with deep reverence to its shastra, never straying beyond its sacred boundaries, yet breathing life and emotion into every note. Another hallmark of her gayaki is her seamless improvisation within the raag, weaving unexpected yet perfectly aligned phrases that add freshness and spontaneity to every performance.
Apart from performance, Shruti is deeply passionate about composing new bandishes in diverse raagas and taals— not only singing but creating original compositions. She has composed bandish in Raag Durga, Madhuvanti, Kedar, Abhogi, Lalit, and tarana in Raag Nat Bhairav, Rageshree, Jog, among others. Not just bandish- Shruti composed and sung two captivating renditions of ‘Durgashtakam’ in Raag Darbari and Bhatiyar which have crossed more than million views across all platforms available on ‘Divine Echoes’ YouTube channel Dedicated to both tradition and innovation, Shruti continues to explore and contribute to the evolving landscape of Indian classical music.
